State Of The Art Eye Examination Procedures
Regular Eye Examinations Are Critical
An eye examination consists of more than just checking your eyes to see what correction gives you your best vision. There are many diseases that can show up or affect the health of your eyes and your vision. Health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, leukemia, renal (kidney) disease, multiple sclerosis, HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases can all have negative effects on the eye.
Here at Eye Looks, Drs. Popper and Balaguer will thoroughly examine your eyes with state of the art equipment to give a comprehensive examination. Not only will they find out the prescription that will give you your best vision, but they will examine to see that the health of your eyes is what it should be. In order to make your exam complete, a dilation of the eye may be performed.
Why do we dilate your eyes? In many cases our doctors will want to get the best vision possible by examining the back of the eye thru an enlarged (dilated) pupil. One half hour after instilling eye drops, the doctors are able to use special instruments to view areas of the eye that they would otherwise not be able to see without dilation. They will now be able to view the lens, optic nerve, retina as well as other areas of the eye to see if there are any problems.
With the addition of the Optos, we can now provide optomap retinal exams. In barely more than a blink of the eye this innovative scanning laser camera will take a picture of virtually your entire retina. This method can eliminate the need for dilation in most cases! This overview, or map, of the retina can give Dr. Popper and Dr. Balaguer a more detailed view than can be achieved by other procedures. This photo will become a permanent record of your medical file for comparison if potential problems appear in a future examination.
